This program seeks to ensure that individuals who were previously excluded from various government financial schemes gain access to essential financial services. These services encompass Banking/Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, and Pension, all of which will be provided to citizens in a convenient and affordable manner.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY)

Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana is a government scheme launched by the government of India to provide easy access to financial services such as Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension, Savings and Deposit Accounts to poor and needy section of our society.

In contrast to an earlier financial scheme called Swabhimaan, which focused solely on opening bank accounts in villages, the PMJDY extends its scope to include individuals across both rural and urban areas. It allows anyone above the age of 10, who is an Indian citizen without a bank account, to open an account with zero balance, provided they meet other eligibility criteria. This is particularly advantageous for the rural population, where access to banking services and other financial institutions is limited.

Under the Jan Dhan Yojana, individuals can open accounts at any bank branch or specially designated Business Correspondent (Bank Mitra) outlets created for this purpose. The scheme also offers an accidental insurance cover of up to one lakh rupees at no cost to the account holder.
